Betsy DeVos’ Role of Championing for Education Reforms

Betsy DeVos began her political cause during her youthful years at Calvin College, and since then she has remained politically active. For over 30 years now, Betsy has engaged in various political activities like party organization, campaigns and even serving as the chair Republican Party for Michigan. As a businesswoman, Betsy and Dick DeVos (her husband), have been looking for solutions to address social problems in the society. She has been pursing reform, especially in the education sector through several non-profit institutions. Recently, Philanthropy magazine interviewed Betsy on her role in the educational reforms, and in particular the school choice program.

During the interview, Betsy said her family foundation is supporting close to 250,000 students in the District of Columbia and 17 states. The educational-choice program which she has been supporting is growing tremendously, and last year the number increased by about 40,000. When a poll was conducted in five states, educational choice was found to enjoy great popularity, mainly among the Latinos.

How Betsy DeVos Became Interested in Education Reforms

When the couple took their kids to school, they met parents who would struggle day and night to afford tuition fees for their kids. After numerous visits to the school, Betsy and her husband decided to support specific students at the school, and that commitment continued to expand. Today, the couple is significantly supporting the Potter’s House. They mainly focused on helping parents from low income backgrounds, and that led to establishment of a foundation that provided scholarship to students from those families. Even after the scholarship, majority of students were still not able to access the education they wanted, and that was when Betsy became more engaged in educational-choice program.

Betsy DeVos Seeks A Better Future For The People Of The U.S.

The future of the children of the U.S. has been at the top of the list of important priorities for myself as I consider how best to educate my own child, but I have also enjoyed the discovery of a well positioned ally in the development of the next generation in the U.S. in the form of newly installed Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. Overf the last few years I have been impressed with the understanding Secretary DeVos has shown of the problems facing the children of the U.S. as they set out on an educational career that is often determined in terms of quality by the zip code they live in; I have been a strong supporter of the educational reform campaign Betsy DeVos has been heading in recent years as I feel the need for greater levels of school choice for parents and families of students Mrs. DeVos has been fighting for are important in obtaining a greater level of support for students at all ages in the U.S. Check her website for more info at betsydevos.com.

I feel Betsy DeVos has been an important leader for the education reform movement over the last three decades and will continue to provide her support for the best options available to all stidents in her new role as Secretary of Education. I feel the political stance of Betsy DeVos has always been true and pointed in a constant direction as the educational improvements she is seeking for all U.S. children and adults has been based in a range of theories that ereflect her own Republican attitudes that led to Betsy DeVos becoming the Chair of the Michigan Republican Party on two separate occasions as her conservative values and impressive work ethic has seen her become a well known figure among those she works alongside in the Republican Party.

Politics play a key role in the work of the DeVos family with Betsy and husband Dick becoming two of the biggest donors to many Republican candidates and causes based in Michigan and on a national level. Betsy DeVos impressed me with the high quality of her work in the political arena and her impressive work as a leader of many organizations, including the impressive ArtPrize festival operated through the Dick and Betsy DeVos Foundation. Betsy DeVos, like myself, believes a wide range of options are always important for any community that wants to educate itself in a wide ranging way; one of the most impressive aspects of the ArtPrize annual event that takes place each year in Grand Rapids, Michigan is the level of community involvement allowed as the people of Grand Rapids vote on which artistic exhibit wins the prizes awarded.
