There are so many issues facing planet Earth in the 21st century that is difficult for many people who feel strongly about diverse issues such as climate change, human rights, and corruption to make a decision about where to aim their ire. The Avaaz group has been providing activists and concerned individuals with a home for fighting a range of policies and issues that are facing the planet at a time of global crisis.
Unlike many activism groups, Avaaz does not profess allegiance to a specific political ideology or set of beliefs, instead stating their overall aim is to create a world the majority of people will be proud to live in. This idea of creating a happier, more friendly global society has led to Avaaz taking on the cause of climate change and those in seats of power who would deny this is an active and urgent issue that must be fought quickly; the leaders of Avaaz have recently been taking aim at the cuts in funding for U.S. government agencies that are concerned with climate change and other aspects of science based conservation.
In other areas of the world Avaaz has taken a more active role in assisting resistance groups fighting restrictive regimes and oppressive policies across a range of areas of the world. In a bid to aid the people of Iran in reducing the restrictions placed on them by government agencies, Avaaz made the decision to host Internet servers made available to opposition groups who then had the ability to provide information to the people of the nation about the human rights abuses conducted by the government. Avaaz has also played a key role in the resistance during the Syrian Civil War, which includes supplying communications equipment to opposition fighters and taking medical supplies to some of the worst affected regions of the war torn nation.
